West Lakes Renaissance is working with Barrow Borough Council to deliver a water sports centre catering for canoeing, sailing, kitesurfing, wind-surfing and power boat racing.

The 2003 Formula 2 National Grand Prix Power Boat held in Barrow's Ramsden Dock attracted 35,000 visitors and marked the start of its regular use for powerboat racing.

With the speed restrictions now in place on Lake Windermere power boat racing at Barrow is expected to grow in importance.
