If your interest is in participating in indoor or outdoor sport or regular visits to the gym there are a fantastic range of sporting activities to choose from in Furness. Here is a  list of sports clubs for you to contact to find out more about what they offer you and your family.

Water Sports

Walney Channel, Earnse Bay on the west side of Walney and the coast around  Roa Island are excellent areas for sailing , kite surfing and windsurfing. Sailing and powerboat racing are also popular

  • Sailing: 
    There are two
    sailing clubs offering regular racing for many classes of boats and sail-boards. The anchorage off Piel Island is popular with visiting yachts.
  • Powerboat Racing:
    During summer months the Port of Barrow at Ramsden Dock offers a popular venue for powerboat racing.

Other Sports include

  • Basketball:
    Local League runs at the Hoops Centre, a £1.25 million purpose built centre for basketball . Usually played on a Thursday night.
  • Football:
    Furness Football organises small-sided football tournaments. The tournaments are a great way for players of all abilities to get fit and meet other people, with the 5-a-side tournaments on a Monday & Tuesday. Registrations are acepted from individuals as well as teams and they will endeavour to place the individuals with a team, allowing people who are new to the area or do not have like-minded friends to participate. Neil Doherty runs Insideout Soccer which are coaching courses for juniors.     Holker Old Boys FC, based at Rakesmoor Lane are the town's second most successgful football team and play in the North West Counties Football League Division Two.

  • Hockey:
    League games are played at the astroturf at the Park Leisure Centre.

  • Badminton:
    The local badminton league is quite popular.

  • Netball:
    Lindal Netball Club is always looking for new players and also promotes the sport around the Furness area. They play in the South Lakes Netball League and games are played on a Monday evening at Hoops Fitness Centre on Thorncliffe Road. For further information please contact Sharon George (07879 236 669)

  • Cricket:
    Is a very popular game in the Furness area. with a large number of clubs who play locally and throughout the North West.

For those who enjoy watching Rugby League. Barrow Rugby League Football Club play at Craven Park. There are lots of rugby league teams in the area and some rugby union clubs.
