The redevelopment of a Cumbrian docklands has moved a step closer with news a Carlisle firm has been chosen to lead the construction programme.
The Marina Village development will see hundreds of new homes, leisure facilities and a 350-birth marina built on a huge site in Barrow.
Regeneration bosses and council officials said Carlisle-based Story Group would partner the project.
The scheme is part of a £120m plan to revamp the town's waterfront area.
Bob Pointing, chief executive of regeneration agency West Lakes Renaissance, said: "This is an important milestone in realising our vision for a new sustainable community on Barrow's dockland."
Jack Richardson, leader of Barrow Council, said: "Marina Village is a fantastic opportunity to set a new direction for the future of the town, especially against the backdrop of the current economic situation."
Fred Story, chief executive of Story Group, added: "As a proud Cumbrian, it gives me tremendous pleasure for us to be involved in such an ambitious and significant development." The Marina Village development is expected to take 10 years to complete and create 1,500 jobs.
