Nightlife, Clubs and Pubs
Furness has a thriving nightlife to cater for all tastes and interests whether you wish to visit an upmarket restaurant in a town like Barrow or a village like Broughton. The cinema, theatre, nightclub, or one of the many town or country pubs are here to enjoy. Here is a selection of the facilities available starting with night clubs. Watch The Canteen video opposite to see what a vibrant night life we have
- Blue Lagoon
The biggest night club in Barrow, built inside a former cruise ship called the Princess Selandia, the club holds an estimated 2,400 people. It is always full over the weekend, going to 6am. Fridays are now taken up by the Rock FM DJs from the large Northwest radio station, playing and broadcasting at the same time. Saturdays is the usual resident DJ but the club is trying to entice some big name DJs to the club, Pete Tong, Judge Jules, Westwood etc and are taking suggestions on who to bring from the public.
- Circus Circus (Cornwallis Street)
Usually the first club to fill up after the pubs shut. Good range of drinks, has some of its own cocktails which are worth a sample. DJ’s play mostly Dance, Pop and Cheese.
- Kavannas (Cornwallis Street)
Next door to Cry this club has 3 floors (not always open depends how full it gets). On a Thursday they usually have something fun going on downstairs, either a rodeo bull, sumo suits or something similar. Always good fun.
- O’Sullivans
Irish themed bar. This doesn't get as crowded as some of the other bars.
- Rosie O’Gradys
Another Irish themed bar which is connected to O’Sullivans so you can easily hop between the two. Is quieter than O’Sullivans aiming at more over 25 age range.
- Highlander
Scottish themed bar and always good place to go after the pubs shut if you don’t feel like Circus. Compact but its got a small dance floor and several places to stand and rest your drink.
- Club M
- Clancy's (Sun inn)
Ulverston's premier nightclub
Some Barrow Pubs
- Furness Railway
JD Wetherspoon chain. Always good for its cheap drinks, this pub is always packed. A good place for the start of any night, and even better on a Thursday for the Curry Club (appox £5 for a curry and a pint) - Abbey Road
- PG’s
Bar extension of Paulo Gianni's restaurant. Good atmosphere always full at the weekends. DJ’s play here at the weekend and play a variety of music – Cavendish Street
- Yates Wine Bar
Part of the Yates chain. Modern bar, during the week lots of places to sit, these are moved at the weekend to accommodate more people. Does get very full at the weekends and queues can be seen outside from 10pm onwards. – Duke Street
- Bar Continental
Across the road from Furness Railway, is a very good place for the sporting events. During World Cups etc don’t expect to get in, people have been known to stand outside and watch through the windows. Shows all the Premiership games (even the Saturday 3pm kick offs) – Abbey Road
- Custom House
Cocktail Bar and Restaurant. Good relaxing place to start a night, never gets to full, always a place to sit. Good cocktails and good food. Hindpool Road/Abbey Road.
